Planning Your Garden Before Laying Sod

22707767 sSpring is here, and it is time to start getting your new plantings in the ground. Among other considerations, you may be realizing that you need new sod for your lawn. It is important to do these things in the proper order so that you don’t have too much wasted time or money.

The first thing you need to do before getting sod is to plan out your lawn and garden. If you are going to be installing new trees and shrubs, this should be done before you lay your sod. But another important part of planning your yard is plotting where your garden will be.

Many people have more than one garden bed. You may have garden beds on either side of your front door, along side paths, beneath windows, or in the backyard. You may even have or want a small vegetable garden plot toward the back of your yard.

It is important to make sure that you are allowing yourself all of the gardening space that you need. It is  much better to lay sod around your garden plots than to create a plot later after the sod has been laid. If you think you might want more garden space in the future, plot it now and fill it with outdoor figurines until you’re ready to plant flowers or herbs.
