Sod Tips From Travis
July Sod Dos and Don’ts

  1. Don’t apply fertilizer to your lawn- it’s the law.  In Hillsborough County you are not able to use soluble Nitrogen or Phosphorus
  2. When mowing your overgrown yard, Don’t cut more than a 1/3 of the leaf blade off in any given mowing.  Slowly bring it down over several mowing days Do spread compost in your yard as a source of nutrition
  3. Do sharpen your mower blades regularly to avoid less disease issues.  Dull blades tend to shatter the leaf blade giving insects and disease portals to enter the plant…
  4. Do apply a good two way fungicide when laying new sod within the first week to avoid summer disease pressure.
Do let your kids play on your Florida lawn.  Summer is the best time for wear and tear on your lawn because it is actively growing and able to repair itself!

Garden Notes:

Pardon Our Plants… Big Things Are Growing at Council Growers!

Jess & Becky have been in full garden-center-spruce-up mode, dreaming, planning, moving, fluffing, rearranging, and giving everything a fresh new feel.

We’re creating a prettier, easier, more inspiring place to shop with fresh displays, new plant collections, better flow, and plenty of ideas to help you turn your yard into your favorite place to be.

The garden center you already love is getting a little glow-up, and we can’t wait for
you to see it.

Although not technically a botanical garden, Bok Tower Gardens offers 250 acres of walkable gardens and conservation land.
